Managing Duplicates
Level 2: Using Given Information
In logic, “Given Information” is a fancy name for facts we already know are 100% true. We use these facts as our starting point to solve the rest of the puzzle!
The Goal: Use the facts you are given to find the “twins” or identical states.
Start with what you Know
Sometimes a puzzle tells you exactly what to do for one bulb. This is your “Given Info.”
Given: “The Red light is ON.” Fact: “The Blue light is a duplicate of the Red light.” (They are twins!)
The Red light is ON.
The Blue light is a duplicate of the Red light.
Spotting the Differences
Not everything is a duplicate! Logic helps us find the “odd one out.”
Clue 1: “Exactly two lights are ON.” Clue 2: “The Green light is a duplicate of the Yellow light.”
Exactly two lights are ON.
The Green light is a duplicate of the Yellow light.
The Twin Tower Puzzle
Can you find the matching pairs?
Clue 1: “The Red light is ON.” Clue 2: “The Blue light is a duplicate of the Red light.” Clue 3: “Exactly three lights are ON.”
The Red light is ON.
The Blue light is a duplicate of the Red light.
Exactly three lights are ON.
The Orange light is OFF.
